Control board detects open lid because strike is missing or broken
F5 E1 or Lid error displayed on control panel
Washer fills then stops because lid lock never confirmed

💡 Strike vs. lid lock switch — which one failed?
⚠️ Open the lid and look at the underside near the front edge — the strike tab is cracked, broken off, or missing entirely
⚠️ Washer won't start and shows F5 E1, Lid, or LO FL error code
⚠️ Lid closes but the control acts as if it's still open
⚠️ Washer starts then immediately stops as if the lid opened mid-cycle
If the strike tab looks intact but the washer still won't start, the problem is the lid lock switch assembly (W10404050) — not this part. The switch is inside the cabinet at the lid opening. Test it with a multimeter for continuity with the lid closed. No continuity means the switch is dead.
