The agitator rocks excessively side-to-side or spins freely by hand with no resistance. This indicates the drive bell is cracked, worn, or broken and can no longer hold the agitator firmly on the shaft.
The machine fills, drains, and advances through cycles normally but skips the agitation phase entirely. When the coupler is completely broken, the motor runs but no motion is transferred to the agitator.
