The door switch signals the control board that the door is securely closed before allowing the motor circuit to energize. A failed switch breaks this signal, preventing the dryer from starting even when the door appears fully latched.
A switch stuck in the closed (activated) position fools the dryer into thinking the door is always shut, causing it to continue heating and tumbling even when the door is wide open — a serious safety hazard.
The 3-wire WP3406107 switch also controls the interior drum light circuit. If the light fails to illuminate when the door is opened (and bulb is intact), the door switch is the most likely cause.
A worn actuator tab with weakened spring tension causes the switch to make intermittent contact. The dryer may only start when the door is slammed hard or held firmly closed, indicating the switch needs replacement.

💡 Pro Tip: How to Know Your Door Switch Has Failed
Your part is likely the culprit if you notice any of the following:
⚠️ Dryer won't start at all even though the door appears fully closed
⚠️ Dryer keeps running or heating after the door is opened
⚠️ Interior drum light does not turn on when the door is opened
⚠️ Dryer only starts when the door is pushed in very firmly — switch tab has lost spring tension
Quick bench test: Press the black actuator tab on the switch by hand. A healthy switch produces a firm, audible click with noticeable spring resistance. No click or no resistance means the switch is faulty. Confirm with a multimeter set to continuity — terminals should show continuity with tab pressed and open circuit with tab released (SPDT logic).
