If the knob spins freely without turning the timer shaft, the D-shaped insert has failed. A new 131873500 knob re-engages the shaft so the cycle advances normally.
A damaged or loose knob can slip mid-cycle, causing the timer to jump to the OFF position prematurely. Installing a new knob with a secure metal insert eliminates this slippage.
