What These Pads Actually DoThere are three of these pads arranged in a triangle at the base of the tub. They're the cushion between the tub and the machine frame during the spin cycle. Once they wear down to bare plastic nubs — which takes about 8–12 years under normal use — the tub starts banging directly against the cabinet. That's the thumping noise, and it's also why the machine walks across the floor.

Same Clip, Same 2-1/4" LengthThese are replacement parts made to the same 2-1/4" length and the same clip-on geometry as the original pads. They snap onto the suspension rod tips at the tub base. No tools, no adhesive.

Replace All Three at OnceThe pads wear at the same rate. If one is gone, the other two are nearly gone too. Check the Springs TooIf replacing the pads doesn't fully fix the shaking, the suspension springs (WP63907) may also be weak or broken. A broken spring creates violent off-axis oscillation that pads alone can't correct. With the top panel off, it takes 30 seconds to check whether any spring is detached or stretched.

Quick test: open the lid and push the tub firmly sideways. If it moves more than an inch with almost no resistance, the pads are gone. If there's decent lateral resistance but the machine still shakes badly, check the suspension springs — a broken spring causes the violent wobble that pads can't fix.

How do I know if it's the wear pads or the suspension springs causing the shaking?

Push the tub sideways with the lid open. If the tub moves easily more than an inch in any direction, the pads are worn out — no cushioning left. If the tub has decent resistance but the machine still shakes badly, check the springs. A broken spring creates a very different kind of shaking — more violent and lopsided. With the top panel off, you can see immediately if a spring is detached or stretched.
Can I just replace one or two pads instead of all three?

You can, but it's not worth it. The pads wear at the same rate, so if one is gone the others are nearly there. Replacing only one or two creates an uneven base that tilts the tub differently — you'll be back inside the machine again in a few months. Replace all three.
How do I access the wear pads on a Whirlpool or Maytag top-load washer?

On most models: remove the two screws at the rear of the top panel, tilt the panel forward and up, then tilt the cabinet forward or remove it entirely to expose the tub base. The three pads are visible on the suspension plate. Press each old pad off its post and snap the new one on. No tools needed for the pads themselves.
My washer walks across the floor even with small loads. Is that definitely the pads?

Walking on small loads is a strong indicator of completely worn pads — with nothing to cushion the tub, even a slight imbalance causes the tub to bang the frame and move the machine. Confirm by looking at the pads directly or by pushing the tub by hand. If the pads are bare nubs, replace them immediately — continued operation without cushioning will eventually crack the cabinet or the tub mounting.
"Tub wear pads," "snubber pads," "suspension pads," "base pads" — are these all the same thing?

Yes. All four names refer to part number 285744. Whirlpool and Maytag service manuals use different terms depending on the publication year. If your manual says snubber pad or suspension pad, order 285744.
