The door strike is the metal hook that engages the lock mechanism when the door is shut. If it is bent, corroded, or broken in half, the door cannot latch and the washer will not start.
LG front-load washers display DE1 or DE2 when the control board cannot confirm a locked door. A faulty strike that fails to fully engage the switch assembly triggers this fault code.
A worn strike may engage intermittently, causing the door-lock signal to drop during a cycle. The washer interprets this as an open door and shuts off mid-wash.
When the door cannot lock completely due to a damaged strike, the door seal may not compress fully, allowing water to seep out around the door gasket during the wash cycle.
LG washers require a confirmed locked door before any cycle will begin. If the strike cannot trigger the door lock switch, pressing Start produces no response even with power on.
