Knob spins freely on stripped or cracked D-shaft hub — timer or cycle selector cannot engage, preventing the dryer or washer from starting.
A damaged knob that cannot hold its set position may cause the appliance to run continuously or fail to advance through cycles.
Cracked or worn plastic hub prevents the knob from rotating the selector shaft, making it impossible to switch temperature, fabric, or drying mode settings.
Broken or missing internal metal clip causes the knob to detach from the control panel shaft. The replacement assembly includes a new pre-installed metal clip.

💡 Pro Tip: Is Your Control Knob the Problem?
Your part is likely the culprit if you notice any of the following:
⚠️ Knob spins freely without engaging the shaft — dryer or washer won't start
⚠️ Visible crack in the white plastic hub around the D-shaped shaft insert
⚠️ Knob falls off or feels loose even after being pressed back on
⚠️ Unable to change cycles, temperature settings, or dryer will not shut off properly
🔍 Technician Note: Pull the knob straight off the shaft and inspect the D-shaped plastic insert inside the hub. If the flat edge is worn round or the plastic is cracked, the clip can no longer grip — replace the knob assembly. Do NOT attempt to glue the old knob; the clip will lose retention and fail again quickly.
