Cracked or fouled igniter cannot produce a bridging spark to ignite gas
Electrode receives voltage but ceramic failure prevents spark from jumping to burner cap
Corroded bracket shifted tip out of alignment with burner cap — spark fires into open air
💡 Pro Tip: Check the Tip Gap Before Closing Up
Your part is likely the culprit if you notice any of the following:
⚠️ One specific burner clicks but produces no visible spark
⚠️ Burner lights unreliably — sometimes on first click, sometimes after 10
⚠️ Spark fires but misses the burner cap — tip misaligned from corroded bracket
⚠️ Ceramic body cracked, chipped, or discolored black around the tip
After installing, look at the gap between the electrode tip and the burner cap position — it should be roughly 3-4mm. Aftermarket igniters sometimes ship with the tip slightly off-angle. Use needle-nose pliers to gently adjust the metal tip only — never apply force to the ceramic insulator or it will crack.
