The door switch signals the control board that the door is safely closed. A failed switch breaks this circuit, preventing the motor and heat from energizing even when the start button is pressed.
If the switch contacts are stuck closed (welded or jammed), the dryer cannot detect an open door, causing it to continue running and heating — a serious safety hazard.
The 3-wire version of this switch also controls the drum interior light. A failed switch can cause the light to stay off when the door opens, even if the dryer itself still runs.
A worn actuator tab or corroded contacts cause inconsistent contact, so the dryer only starts after slamming the door repeatedly or holding pressure on the door panel.

💡 Pro Tip: How to Know Your Door Switch Has Failed
Your part is likely the culprit if you notice any of the following:
⚠️ Dryer will not start at all even when the door is firmly closed
⚠️ Dryer continues to run — drum spinning, heat on — after you open the door
⚠️ Drum light does not illuminate when door is opened
⚠️ Dryer starts only when you slam or hold pressure on the door
🔍 Quick bench test: with the dryer unplugged, set your multimeter to continuity mode and probe the COM and NO terminals of the switch. Press the actuator tab — you should hear a click and see continuity. Release it — continuity should break. No click or no continuity change = replace the switch.
