This Part Fixes These Problems

Ice Maker Not Making Ice

The ice maker solenoid port of this triple-solenoid valve controls water fill during the harvest cycle. When the solenoid coil fails or internal debris screens clog, the ice maker stops receiving water and ice production ceases entirely.

No Water from Dispenser

The water dispenser solenoid on this valve opens to release chilled water to the door. A failed or clogged solenoid results in no water output even when the dispenser paddle is activated and 120VAC is present at the valve.

Water Leaking from Back of Refrigerator

A cracked valve body or deteriorated internal seals caused by age, frozen water, or high water pressure (above 120 psi) will cause water to pool behind or beneath the refrigerator. The valve must be replaced to stop the leak.

Water Dispenser Runs Continuously

When the solenoid diaphragm is stuck open or the valve body fails to fully close, water drips or flows from the dispenser without any user input. This typically also causes overflow at the filter housing inside the refrigerator.

Slow or Restricted Water Flow

Internal debris screens within the valve inlet can accumulate mineral deposits and sediment over time, restricting flow to both the ice maker and water dispenser, resulting in slow dispensing or small, hollow ice cubes.

Product Description

Why Choose Our 242252702 Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve?

🔧
Built to OEM SpecificationsTriple solenoid design, 120V rated — 20W (Maroon & Yellow solenoids), 35W (Green solenoid). Dimensions: 7-1/8"L × 3-3/4"W × 3-1/4"H, constructed of plastic and metal with mounting bracket included.
💧
Controls Both Ice Maker & Water DispenserThis valve features 3 solenoids and 4 outlets — one 1/4" inlet, three 5/16" outlets and one 1/4" outlet — managing water flow independently to both the ice maker and door water dispenser.
🔌
Quick-Connect FittingsFeatures modern push-fit quick-connect fittings. Compatible with both old screw-on style and new push-connect tubing — simply cut the tube end flat for a leak-free press-fit connection, no tools required for tube attachment.
✅
Wide Brand CompatibilityFits Frigidaire, Electrolux, Kenmore, Gibson, Crosley, Kelvinator, Westinghouse, and Tappan side-by-side refrigerators. Directly replaces over 14 obsolete part numbers including AP5671757, 241734301, 240321801, and PS7784018.
🛠️
Easy DIY Repair — 15 to 30 MinutesLocated at the back lower-right of the refrigerator, this valve is accessible with only a nut driver and screwdriver. Most homeowners complete the swap in under 30 minutes without professional help.
📐
Test Before You ReplaceSolenoid coils should test between 500–1500 ohms resistance with a multimeter. If readings are below 500 ohms or show no continuity, the valve has failed and must be replaced. Color-coded wiring makes reconnection straightforward.

💡 Pro Tip: How to Diagnose a Failing Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve

Your part is likely the culprit if you notice any of the following:

⚠️ Ice maker stopped producing ice cubes entirely

⚠️ Water dispenser produces no water or very weak flow from the door

⚠️ Water leaking at the back lower-right area of the refrigerator

⚠️ Dispenser runs continuously or water drips without pressing the lever

Before ordering, confirm the valve is receiving 120VAC when the dispenser paddle is pressed. If voltage is present but no water flows, the valve has failed internally. Also check for a frozen fill tube — a blocked tube can mimic a bad valve. Test solenoid resistance: 500–1500 ohms is normal; a reading near 200 ohms or open circuit confirms a failed coil.

Questions & Answers

Will part 242252702 fit my Frigidaire FFHS2322MS refrigerator?
Answered by Support Team  ·  Mar 15, 2024
Yes — part 242252702 is a direct-fit replacement for the entire FFHS2322 series including FFHS2322MSGA, FFHS2322MSLA, FFHS2322MB7, FFHS2322MWEA, and many other variants. Confirm your full model number on the interior door label to be sure.
How do I test my water inlet valve before replacing it?
Answered by Support Team  ·  Nov 20, 2023
Use a multimeter set to resistance (Ohms) mode. Test each solenoid coil — a healthy solenoid reads between 500 and 1500 ohms. A reading near 200 ohms or an open circuit (no reading) confirms the coil has failed and the valve must be replaced. Also apply 120VAC to the valve while pressing the dispenser paddle — if voltage is present but no water flows, the valve is defective.
My ice maker stopped working but the water dispenser still works — is this still the right part?
Answered by Support Team  ·  Jan 8, 2025
Very likely yes. The 242252702 is a triple solenoid valve, and each solenoid controls a separate function. The ice maker solenoid can fail independently while the dispenser solenoid continues to work. Test the ice maker solenoid coil with a multimeter — 500–1500 ohms is normal. Alternatively, manually pour a small amount of water into the ice tray; if the ice maker cycles and dumps ice, the ice maker itself is fine and the valve is your culprit.
Do I need to cut the water lines when installing this valve?
Answered by Support Team  ·  Jul 22, 2024
Only if your refrigerator has the older screw-on style tube fittings. In that case, use a razor blade or tube cutter to cut the old fitting end off cleanly — the cut must be flat and straight. Then insert the tube approximately 1/2 inch into the new push-connect fitting until it bottoms out. To release a tube later, simply depress the white collet ring and pull. No cutting is needed if your existing lines already use push-connect fittings.
My water dispenser runs on its own without pressing the lever — can this valve cause that?
Answered by Support Team  ·  Feb 10, 2026
Yes. When the solenoid diaphragm inside the valve fails to fully close, water will continue to flow or drip from the dispenser without user activation. You may also notice water leaking down the inside back wall near the filter. This is a known failure mode for aging valves — replacement of the 242252702 assembly will resolve the issue. Note: if the problem returns quickly after replacement, also check water line pressure (should be 40–120 psi) and consider replacing the diode kit 5303918287.
