The door switch signals the control board that the door is securely closed before allowing the motor circuit to energize. A failed switch keeps the start circuit open, so pressing Start produces no response.
If the switch contacts are stuck in the closed position, the dryer cannot detect that the door has been opened, causing the drum to continue spinning — a serious safety hazard.
The 3-wire door switch controls both the safety interlock and the interior drum light circuit. A failed switch can prevent the light from turning on when the door is opened.
A worn or weakened actuator tab may require unusually hard door closure to make contact. If the dryer starts only when you lean on the door, the switch mechanism is failing.

💡 Pro Tip: How to Know If Your Door Switch Has Failed
Your part is likely the culprit if you notice any of the following:
⚠️ Dryer will not start at all when you press the Start button
⚠️ Dryer continues to run with the door wide open
⚠️ Interior drum light does not come on when the door is opened
⚠️ Dryer only starts when you push firmly against the closed door
🔍 Quick bench test: With the dryer unplugged, locate the black actuator tab protruding from the front panel. Press it firmly — you should feel clear resistance and hear a distinct click. No resistance and no click = replace the switch. You can also confirm a failed switch with a multimeter set to continuity mode: with the tab pressed (door-closed position), the COM and NO terminals should show continuity; with tab released (door-open position) they should be open.
