LG Dryer Hi-Limit Thermostat Parts — Models & Compatibility

Your LG dryer runs for a few minutes, then shuts off unexpectedly. Or maybe it won't heat at all. Before you haul it to the curb, check the hi-limit thermostat — it's a $40 safety part that fails more often than most people realize. This hub covers the 6931EL3001F hi-limit thermostat assembly that fits dozens of LG and Kenmore-branded LG dryers from the DLE and DLEX series.
Is This the Right Part for Your Model?
The 6931EL3001F fits LG dryers with model numbers starting with DLE, DLEX, RN, and some Kenmore 796-series models. Your model number is on a sticker inside the door frame — open the dryer door and look along the top edge or right side. If your model matches the list below, this part will work. Cross-reference numbers include AP5072172, PS3530482, 1377779, and AH3530482.
About This Replacement Part
The hi-limit thermostat is a safety cutoff switch mounted on the heating element housing. When your dryer overheats — usually from restricted airflow or a clogged vent — this thermostat trips and cuts power to the heating element. It's designed to reset automatically once things cool down, but after a few thermal cycles, the contacts wear out and it stops resetting properly. That's when you get intermittent heat or no heat at all. Some thermostats fail in the open position (no heat ever), while others fail closed (dryer overheats and trips your circuit breaker). Either way, you're replacing the same part. The 6931EL3001F is the OEM-spec replacement that includes the mounting bracket and wire leads.

What to Check Before You Order
Hi-limit thermostats usually fail because something else is wrong. Clean your lint trap and exhaust vent completely before installing the new part — a clogged vent will cook the new thermostat just like it did the old one. Also check that your blower wheel spins freely and your heating element isn't shorted to the housing. If you've got good airflow and the element tests normal, the thermostat replacement should fix your heating issue.
Need Help Finding Your Model?
If you're not sure which model you have, take a photo of the sticker inside your dryer door and compare it to the list above. The key identifier is the model prefix — DLE for basic electric dryers, DLEX for the higher-end models with extra features. Kenmore-branded LG dryers usually start with 796.8 or 796.9 and use the same parts as their LG-branded siblings.
