GE Dryer Lint Screen Filter Assembly Parts — Models & Compatibility

Your GE dryer's lint screen is the most handled part on the entire machine. Every load, you're pulling it out, wiping it down, sliding it back in. After a few years of this, the plastic frame cracks or the mesh tears — and suddenly you're dealing with noisy operation, lint marks on your clothes, or a dryer that's running way too hot because airflow is compromised. The WE18M28 lint screen filter assembly fits over 100 GE, Hotpoint, and Fisher Paykel dryer models and directly replaces a long list of older part numbers that've been discontinued.
Is This the Right Part for Your Model?
Check your dryer's model number — it's typically on a label inside the door opening or on the front panel near the door latch. Match it against the compatibility list below. This part replaces WE18X25100, WE18M19, WE18M21, WE18M22, WE18M23, WE18M25, WE18M27, WE18M29, WE18M30, and several others. If you've got a GE dryer from the past 15 years with a front-load lint trap, there's a solid chance this is your part.
About This Replacement Part
The lint screen assembly includes both the plastic frame and the fine mesh screen in one piece. Common failure modes include cracks along the handle from repeated removal, torn or sagging mesh that lets lint through, and warped frames that don't seal properly in the housing. When the screen fails, you'll notice three things: unusual rattling or buzzing during operation (loose frame vibrating), dark lint marks on your clothes (lint escaping through tears), and the dryer running hotter than normal because restricted airflow forces longer dry times. Replacing the entire assembly costs less than dealing with a service call and takes about 30 seconds — literally just pull the old one out and slide the new one in.

Installation Overview
No tools required. Remove the old lint screen by pulling straight out. Insert the new WE18M28 assembly into the lint trap housing until it clicks into place. Test that it slides in and out smoothly — if it binds, check that the housing is clean and free of lint buildup.
Why This Part Fails
Plastic fatigue from thermal cycling (hot dryer, cool handling) weakens the frame over time. The mesh itself stretches and tears from lint buildup and aggressive cleaning. If you've been running the dryer with a damaged screen, lint accumulation in the blower housing and ductwork increases fire risk and reduces efficiency. Replace the screen at the first sign of damage — cracks, tears, or a loose fit in the housing.
