Whirlpool Dishwasher Heating Element Parts — Models & Compatibility

Your Whirlpool dishwasher isn't drying dishes anymore, or worse — it's leaving food residue because the water isn't hot enough to activate the detergent. That's usually a failed heating element. This hub covers the W10134009 heating element, which fits over 500 Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, and Amana dishwasher models across multiple series.
Is This the Right Part for Your Model?
The W10134009 heating element replaces several older part numbers including W10518394, 8194250, 8563007, and 8572861. To verify compatibility, you'll need your model number — it's typically on a sticker inside the door frame along the top or side edge. Check it against our compatibility list below. This element works across Whirlpool's WDF, WDT, GU, and KitchenAid KUDS series, plus equivalent Kenmore 665 models.
About This Replacement Part
The heating element does two critical jobs: it heats water during the wash cycle to improve cleaning performance, and it generates heat during the dry cycle to evaporate water from your dishes. When it fails, you'll notice wet dishes at the end of a cycle — that's the most obvious symptom. But a weak element can also cause poor cleaning because detergent doesn't dissolve properly in lukewarm water. Some owners also report their dishwasher refusing to start if the control board detects a heating element circuit failure. The W10134009 is a direct OEM-equivalent replacement that mounts to the bottom of the tub with two screws and connects via two wire terminals.
Common Issues This Part Fixes
- Not drying dishes properly — dishes come out wet or steamy
- Not cleaning dishes properly — water isn't hot enough to activate detergent
- Will not start — control board may lock out cycle if element circuit is open
- Leaking — in rare cases, a corroded element can crack the tub seal area
Compatible Model Series
This heating element works across Whirlpool's most popular dishwasher lines from the past 15 years. If you've got a WDF520PADM, WDT720PADM, WDF330PAHS, or similar model, this is your part. It also fits older GU2300 and GU2500 series machines that used the same tub design. Kenmore owners: if your model starts with 665, there's a good chance this element fits — Whirlpool manufactured most Kenmore dishwashers during this era.
