A clogged or torn lint filter restricts airflow through the dryer vent, causing drying times to increase significantly. Replacing the filter restores proper airflow and normal drying performance.
When the filter mesh is damaged or has holes, lint bypasses the screen and accumulates on the drum interior or around the door gasket instead of being captured.
A warped, cracked, or improperly seated lint filter frame can protrude from its slot, catching fabric such as tank top straps, waistbands, and lightweight garments during tumbling.
If the filter pops up or fails to sit flush in its housing, the frame may be warped or the housing and guide may also need replacement (MCK49049101 and MEA49050001) due to LG's design revision.
💡 Pro Tip: Is Your Lint Filter the Problem?
Your part is likely the culprit if you notice any of the following:
⚠️ Clothes taking longer than one cycle to fully dry
⚠️ Lint accumulating on the drum interior or around the door seal
⚠️ Visible tears, warping, or cracks in the filter frame or mesh screen
⚠️ Filter pops up, doesn't seat flush, or snags clothing as they tumble
⚙️ Installer Note: Due to LG's redesign, some models also require replacing the lint screen housing (MCK49049101) and lint screen guide (MEA49050001) at the same time. If the new filter feels too wide or won't seat fully, check whether your housing and guide also need updating.
