Worn D-bore prevents knob from clicking into flame positions
Physical damage to knob body or face
Knob has come off the stem and been lost
Stainless face label has peeled or discolored
💡 Confirm it's the knob bore and not the valve stem
⚠️ Knob rotates freely past Low/Medium/High with no detent clicks
⚠️ Knob body is visibly cracked or the stainless face has separated
⚠️ Knob pulls off the stem with almost no resistance
⚠️ Stainless finish is peeling or heavily discolored from heat
To confirm the knob is the problem: pull it off and look at the D-bore opening. If the flat edge is cracked or has worn round, the knob is done. If the bore looks sharp, put it back on and feel the valve stem — if the stem's D-flat is rounded, the valve needs service, not a new knob.
